I think it’s very important that you know that Y.O.U. have the best pants ever.

I’m using the word ‘pants’ in the British sense of the words – underwear, knickers, smalls, undergarments, however you want to call them.

I finished a ‘no new clothes for a year‘ experiment recently. Having not bought any pants in the run-up to the challenge, by the time I finished, my current underwear was looking and feeling a little on the sad side. But after rejecting fast fashion and clothes made in sweatshop conditions for a year, I didn’t want to just head to the high street and undo all that good work.

So I headed to the internet to seek out some smalls. I wanted something plain and black, made with sustainable fabric, by people paid a good wage, supporting a small business. I also wanted them to be practical, smart, non-VPL, comfy, and to feel good. I favour a simple style – I don’t want to be worrying that matching bras and pants sets are washed and dry at the same time. Not asking too much eh?

After my much searching, I’m very happy to let you know that I’ve found the perfect pants, made by British-owned company, Y.O.U. I would like to stress at this point that this post is not sponsored. I wasn’t sent a freebie. I have no connection to this company except as a very happy customer. This review is written purely out of the happiness that only a good pair of pants can bring.

Sarah and Lily set up Y.O.U. after a trip to Uganda, and were shocked at how a lack of access to underwear was preventing women and girls from participating in  education and work.Their website says:

“We donate a percentage of the profit from each piece of underwear we sell to our partners Smalls for All, a charity who collect and distribute underwear to women and children across Africa. And their local knowledge and experience makes sure that our contributions are helping not hurting in the long run.

The fabric used is organic and Fairtrade, sustainably made in India. They also use models of different sizes and shapes, as good underwear is for everyone!

So, after finding such a great company, I ordered my first pair of pants to try them out, with my fingers and toes crossed that they weren’t going to ride up my bum, cut into my legs, or be otherwise troublesome. We’ve all endured days through bad new underwear so I don’t need to explain to you how un-fun that is.

Hands down, they are the comfiest pants I’ve ever owned. Perfect fit, lovely soft fabric that stands up well to washing, and with a nice inspirational message peeking out at you!

Hurrah for supportive pants

One last reason I was impressed with them was the excellent customer service. I found this out because the pants come in a little cotton bag. Whilst I was very happy to have one, I needed several new pairs of underwear and couldn’t think of enough uses for that many bags. So I wrote them an email to ask if I could order without a bag in future. I hadn’t expected Sarah, one of the co-owners to write back to me to open a dialogue about the motivation for my request – it was clear over the course of our emails how passionate they are to provide great customer service and how much they care about their company.

In short, I’m really, really impressed. A combination of great ethics, design, and customer service mean that I’m confident to say that Y.O.U. have a dedicated customer for life.

So, if you’re in the market for new underwear, please go check out their website. I’m sure you’ll love them as much as I do.
